Job Title ? Alcohol & Family Support Worker
HSE Grade V Clerical Scale ? point 1.
ROLE:_ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:_
* To identify, engage and work directly with individuals and their
families, including young people/children deemed ?at risk? of harm
as a result of Alcohol misuse in the family.
* To develop strategic partnerships with other agencies, including,
educational, justice, mental health, social care and community
agencies.
* To act as a link between service users and Alcohol misuse agencies
and attend case review meetings where appropriate.
* To deliver evidence-based programmes such as SMART recovery,
Adolescent /Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA/CRA), The 5 Step
method/Steps 2 Cope interventions.
* To prepare and submit relevant outcome reports to all concerned.
* To empower service users to make positive meaning changes in their
behaviours and enhance progression.
* Knowledge of Child Protection guidelines and recognition of risk
factors and hidden harm in the family.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* To work and promote the ethos and mission Blanchardstown Drug &
Alcohol Task services and sustain its values in all areas of work.
* To observe the policies and procedures of the project.
* To work closely with key stakeholders to support the rollout and
implementation of its strategy for the area.
* To identify and support voluntary groups to link in and develop
links with the relevant agencies.
* Support development of programmes aimed at progression of
recovering into employment, training or education.
* All general administration duties linked to the role i.e., file
keeping, case management etc.
* Develop initiatives and strategies aimed at reducing existing and
future local drugs and alcohol problems.
* To support the BLDATF management to ensure effective communication
between the TF policies and actions and other social inclusion
programmes.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
E) = ESSENTIAL, (D) = DESIRABLE
* Preferably Education to National Diploma or Degree standard (note:
candidates with exceptional, relevant work experience in the field of
drug & alcohol misuse may also be considered in lieu of degree
qualifications) (E)
* A minimum of 5-year relevant full-time paid work experience
preferably in the field of alcohol misuse and Family support (E)
* Access to car and full driving licence (E)
* Experience of working with people and families affected by alcohol
or related problems (E)
* IT skills (e.g., MS Office, Word, Excel, Power Point). (E)
PERSON SPECIFICATION (ALL ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS)
* A working knowledge of Community Work methodologies
* Ability to mentor/advise individuals and families on options
available.
* Ability to engage target groups with skills in empowering others
and facilitating development.
* Empathetic attitude / approachable
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise with a
wide range of contacts and build and maintain effective working
relationships.
* Excellent standards of accuracy and attention to detail
* Ability to be proactive, use own initiative and work effectively
within a pressurised environment.
